Have you heard of oil pulling? Maybe you have a friend that has told you about this but you blew it off as something only hippies do. Well no longer is oil pulling something that the far and few between know of. This practice is becoming more and more mainstream every single day. Lets learn more about it!
The phrase "oil pulling" and usage in its current form was popularized in the early 1990s by one of the early adopters, Tummala Koteswara Rao in Bangalore, South India. Rao actively evangelized oil pulling as an ancient Ayurvedic practice. Oil pulling is a VERY simple and inexpensive thing to do. Countless people have seen dramatic results in the way that they feel simply by doing this simple chore on a daily basis. So where do you get started you ask? Well it is not in a fancy salon or an over priced holistic practitioners office. You can start in the comfort of your own home. Lets get down the basics first. It is important for you to choose the right type of oil, however, whenever you start doing this as some types are toxic in themselves. Most people either go with sesame, sunflower, or coconut oil whenever they first start out; I stick with coconut oil. It is important for you to make sure that the oil was not heated and that it is organic and raw. Oil pulling is the swishing of sesame, sunflower, or organic coconut oil inside the mouth for 15 to 20 minutes, then spitting it out and rinsing the mouth. It's an alternative medicine new to the U.S. but practiced in countries such as Europe, China, and India for a very long time; everyone always seems to be WAY ahead of us in terms of health! You would use about a tablespoon of whichever oil you choose and swish for the recommended time of 15 to 20 minutes. You will do this first thing when you wake up in the morning. Do not drink water before; literally roll out of bed and start to oil pull. Oil pulling with coconut oil is a new healing concept in the U.S., but for many years practiced in other countries such as India and China. It is completely harmless and actually only beneficial. It consists of washing your mouth out with an edible oil, but not swallowing it. You can really use any kind of edible oil such as sunflower, sesame, virgin olive or coconut oil. I am going to focus on oil pulling with organic coconut oil but really any oil which is cold pressed and not refined is fine to use. It has many oral and systemic health benefits such as healing the gums, cleanse the teeth, remove stains, heal infection, and cure bad breath. It also increases the metabolism, gives you energy, and assists in weight loss. It may also help with the treatment of allergies, constipation, hormonal issues, high blood pressure/sugar, insomnia, migraines, cancer, diabetes, disease of the mouth or gums, kidney and lung disease, and infections that are chronic. Many people have reported of completely being cured for their specific diseases; how exciting and promising is that?! It is a detoxifying technique that ultimately helps the body get rid of excess toxins and chemicals. At a minimum, most people immediately notice that their teeth are whiter and gums are healthier within 2-3 days of doing it. If it's hard to do the oil pulling therapy for a full twenty minutes, then just start out slow; something is far better than nothing! With this kind of thing, practice makes perfect. If you can only last for five minutes, then spit it out and start again. It's good to do on a daily basis, but if you are doing it to fight a chronic infection, then you can oil pull for up to 3 times per day. Always make sure it's on an empty stomach or 4 hours after you have eaten. I am going to focus on oil pulling therapy with organic coconut oil. Did you know that organic coconut oil has many anti properties including anti fungal, anti viral, anti bacterial, anti microbial, and containing many antioxidants, which we all know is important? So, just how does this process work? Oil pulling therapy does not work by killing germs. However, it does work by drawing the toxins held deep within the crevices of the teeth, gums and the tongue. Anyone above five years old can practice oil pulling so this can be a family event if you want it to be! Children should use only a teaspoon of oil while adults use a tablespoon. The best time of the day for oil pulling is upon wakening in the morning before eating or drinking. It can also be done an hour after drinking water, tea, or coffee in the morning before breakfast. A good time to start is when you're not feeling well from any kind of health problem. It is highly effective in detoxification and increased metabolism. Oil pulling will increase the secretion of saliva and use the salivary glands in the mouth as a detoxifying organ, the saliva can trap the toxin within the oil particles. Then you simply spit them out & say bye bye to toxins.
I love fast, easy, inexpensive & POWERFUL ways to cleanse and this is one of my favorites!
